Only Once

Take the time to notice what is around you. The days pass quickly and each day comes only once.

Noticing makes the destination clearer.

team Building takes More Than A Thank You

One of the most important things a manager can do for the employees is to say thank you. It shows the employees that the manager has noticed that the job is completed or that there is confidence that the job will be completed. It also indicates appreciation for the employee. This is a simple expression that employees should hear at least from time to time. However there is a funny thing about saying thank you. A manager needs to mean it. It can have a negative connotation if it is being said and the job is not completed.

Having said that saying thank you cannot be the only thing that is done. Though the employees will appreciate this if there is no other communication going on in regards to their work, it will become commonplace. When a team is involved it should be remembered that most of the time thank you is going to the individual in the course of a day. So how is a team made to feel like a team and noted for its accomplishments?

The members of a team need to know how what each does relates to the other and to the whole. If someone is absent it is good to show that person how it affected the team for the day. I am not saying pound the person for being absent but simply show that it was more difficult to get the job done without the person. Here the person;s importance can also be shown. It can be explained that that many activities need to get accomplished throughout the day and it is the team that gets that completed. Getting feedback from members on how it could be better is a way of building the team effort. Giving each member a part of the function that that person is responsible for but affects the whole also builds the team. As the members get their jobs done it needs to be noticed and praised.

It comes down to the manager noticing what is going on, talking about the team, telling them along the way what is going right, how to correct things, and yes saying thank you. It really is an involvement all along the way and not just when things go wrong. An employee should feel that coming to the manager and explaining something went wrong is fine and they will solve it together. Any team or individual needs to feel supported.

A thank you is very important but it cannot be the only thing that happens.

Benefit of the Benefit of the Doubt

When an issue is brought up about someone, all that is being said is that someone believes something has happened that is felt was not the correct thing to so. At this particular time there is one thing that has happened on one day usually by one person. If this is the first time that a mistake might have happened then a person deserves what we call the benefit of the doubt. First of all this implies that it will never be known if someone did something wrong or not, almost like circumstantial evidence. It is more of a feeling that the person did a wrong act.

Unless of course it is an eye witness account and even here people view things differently and can be wrong. So in this case especially in the first reaction there should be no judgments. There needs to be a little investigation, if you will, getting as much information as possible. The more information the more the truth of what happened will come out.

But the simple notion of a benefit of the doubt says a wonderful occurrence. It says that maybe a mistake was made but we are going to look at it as a mistake. Further we are going to believe that the person making the mistake not only realizes it was a mistake, but there is trust that the lesson has been learned. If a person is made to feel that everyone has lost trust there is no reason to correct the behavior. Instead benefit of the doubt says that if there is not surety that a person is guilty of a wrong that needs to be corrected,it will be looked at as everyone knows the right thing to do for the next time. So there is no punishment necessary this time.

Benefit of the doubt mentality is very good because it gives a person another chance. Even on those times that a person did do it and lied about it in most cases will at the very least get that person to think about what was done. In this respect the problem often times does not happen again.

Even if someone does get away with something that will soon become evident because a pattern will occur. The the steps can be taken to fix this. But to make sure there is not an over reaction when a mistake is made for the first time the use of benefit of the doubt is a way to have what could be a lesson that is beneficial. A mistake does not necessarily have to feel like a person is bad and in fact should not do this. Especially on a first occurrence a person should be allowed to learn and start over
